Reiki Healing

What is Reiki?

“A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being”.

Reiki can also be given and received equally effectively hands-off or via distant healing.

The Japanese word ‘Reiki’ literally translates as universal life force energy. Eastern medicine systems work with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well being.

What can Reiki do?

Reiki isn't part of any type of religion or belief system. It is best described as a form of hands on healing used as a complementary therapy. A Reiki practitioner aims to change and balance the energy fields in and around your body to help on a physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual level.

Reiki is often referred to as an intelligent form of healing. It is suggested that this and similar energy therapies may be valuable in the prevention and remission of some serious diseases that are so costly in terms of human suffering and likely to be more expensive to health care in the future.

Those who have received Reiki healing report many changes to their system. Here are some of the conditions that have seen reduced symptoms or cures:

  • Pain (back, arthritis, gynaecological, head and body injuries)
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • OCD
  • Depression
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Toxic symptoms (liver function, blood disorders)
  • Fatigue
  • Trauma, grief
  • Immune dysfunction
  • High Blood Pressure

One or two treatments will greatly benefit your symptoms but to feel full and deeper benefits, a course of at least 3 treatments are recommended.

How do we give Reiki?

Reiki is safe for adults, children, mothers–to–be, babies and animals. However, in the case of animals with health issues, owners should confirm that the animal has been seen by a veterinary surgeon to obtain a diagnosis. Reiki’s gentle energy is easily adapted to most medical conditions and may be used safely by people of all ages, including pregnant mothers, the new-born, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, in any situation.

On your first visit, I will ask you about your general health and medical history. I will ask you why you would like to have Reiki and discuss your treatment plan with you.

Reiki is given fully clothed and in a quiet environment. You are invited to take your shoes and coat off and can choose to have it sitting or lying down. You can have your eyes open or closed.

Reiki is performed as a hands-on therapy, but may also be done with hands a few inches above your body. Positions usually start at your head and work down to your feet, but may focus on particular areas of the body.

The aim is to move and balance the energy within and around your body. And to get rid of any energy blocks to encourage physical healing and strengthen your energy.

You might feel a tingling sensation, a deep relaxation, or warmth or coolness throughout your body. Or, you might not feel anything at all. This doesn’t mean the treatment isn’t working.

A session usually lasts for an hour. You might feel thirsty after a session. It can help to drink plenty of water and avoid strong caffeine-based drinks, such as coffee.

You might feel deeply relaxed and resting at home afterwards can help you get the full benefit of the treatment.

Reiki can be sent remotely. It is possible to send healing over a distance. So if you are unable to attend an appointment I am able to send Reiki remotely.

As a Reiki practitioner I am a member of the International Alliance of Holistic Therapists, a recognised professional organisation with strict Codes of Ethics and I hold practitioner insurance. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose health problems.

Any possible contra-indications to Reiki will be discussed before treatment.  I am fully trained and I will assess your requirements upon seeing you.  This will give me the knowledge of any possible situations in which treatment is inadvisable.
